Should I Homeschool My Child?

Should I Homeschool My Child?

This is a question that every mother asks, including myself: “Should I homeschool my child?” Especially since the pandemic many mothers were forced to teach their children virtual. Therefore, many mothers had to learn to play the role of teachers while being a mother full time. Oh don’t forget about the mothers who also had to work from home while trying to balance both together.

How can I and Should I Homeschool my child?

To me personally this is a decision you may pray about, seek guidance from God and do what is best for your child. Not only what is best for your child but what is best for you as a family.

Before you make any decisions, you should write about the positive benefits of homeschooling. Would it affect your child’s social skills, do you think it will be a better fit than public or private schools? Would it be affordable or would you have time to homeschool your children?

Should I Homeschool My child or is it Even Worth It?

In the same way, you should talk to your child about homeschooling. While my son was home during the pandemic he enjoyed doing school online. It worked out perfect for the both of us because I was also teaching online instead of being in the classroom.

But when we both had to return back inside the classroom my son hated going to school. Besides the fact, he kept getting hurt at school. One day he was playing outside during recess and he ran into an air conditioner. It scared me so bad, he had blood running out his head with a hole it. Talking about terrifying, then another day his school nurse called me and said “My son was playing soccer outside during recess, his leg got caught in the gate and it bruised him really badly.”

Why Should You Consider Homeschooling Your Child?

Oh don’t let me forget about the time my son’s principal called to tell me my son was playing baseball during PE outside and he was hit in the eye with a baseball by accident. Yes I know, it’s was too much going on at school. Close to the end of that school year I was an emotionally wreck. The school called me so many times that every time my son’s school called immediately, I thought something terrible had happened to my son. In addition, I had to start receiving Christian therapy because of all those negative thoughts in my mind.

Talk to Your Child About Homeschooling

From me having so many panic attacks or meltdowns, praying was the only thing I always did. Every morning I would pray over my son for his protection and safety at school. The spirit of fear was all over me, astonishing God used my son to give me a miraculous idea. All my son said “Mom, can I do homeschool? I really enjoyed doing school online.”

It was at that very moment my son gave me a life-changing moment. As I was thinking to myself, maybe God was showing me signs that homeschooling is best option for my son. About a month later, my son kept encouraging me to homeschool him. To my surprise he kept mentioning to me that he wanted to do homeschool.

Finally, I had a conversation with my child and listened to him. Therefore, I thought it was remarkable that my son wanted to be homeschooled.

What Should You Do Next?

Of course, I asked myself that question again “Should I homeschool my child?” With me being a single mom and still working full time, how was I going to make that possible? During my prayers or searching for answers, I wanted a Christian homeschool program that I could afford and that was the best for my son.

If you want to homeschool your child, that decision should be based on you, your child and do what you think God wants you to do. Do not make decisions from your emotions but listen to the Holy Spirit.

What If I Decide to Homeschool My Child?

For instance, if you are at that point where you have decided to homeschool your child you should look into schoolhouseteachers. What I love about this homeschool program is that it is self paced. It is a Christian based homeschool program and the foundation is built upon Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ, the Word is God, God the Father is God. The Holy Spirit is God. There are no gods but one true living God.

  • We believe in the Holy Spirit, one holy Christian church, the communion of all true saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the eternal (never-ending) gift of life.
  • We believe that the Bible is the ONLY inerrant Word of God. In it, we can find all instructions in righteousness, holiness and faith. It is our authoritative “handbook” for Christian living . . . the ONLY book that is necessary for our faith.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This ONE God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. This God is also holy, righteous, good, loving and full of mercy, by character. He is the Creator of all things. He sustains all things.

  1. Thank you for sharing! I have seriously considered homeschooling my children and have been researching so I value your opinion on the subject. They are still not school age so I have a little time but I love hearing of other homeschooling experiences

    1. Hello Shea! That’s good to hear and you what is best for you. Homeschooling should workout for you and your family.

  2. Homeschooling has done wonders for our children. My son was having so much trouble at school that he couldn’t handle it mentally. From the way he was treated by teachers and classmates as well as not being able to keep up with everything, I believe it would have had so many negative effects had I kept him in public school. I did think long and hard about it because I wanted to be sure, but you could see how it affected him the longer I kept him in school. Homeschooling has taken so much pressure off him, he can go at his own pace and because of that he is learning so much more.

    1. Hello Jess! It is good that your son is learning more and homeschooling has worked out for him.

  3. Homeschooling is great. It offers them flexibility and at the same time independence. Thanks!

    1. Hello W. Santiago! That is so true, it does help with the flexibility.

  4. Really interesting subject and I can relate to your fear about your son getting hurt without you there to protect him. That is my fear also but at the same time I don’t want to deprive her of the social contacts she would be making. Luckily I still got a lot of time before I have to decide.

    1. Hello Kristin! I completely understand how you feel, it’s good that you have more time to decide for your kids!!!

  5. I am so glad you wrote up on this subject because my toddler is 18 months and I can’t decide if homeschooling would be right for her and I, but we have been really thinking about it.

    1. Hello Noelle! Yes you have to really pray and think about it, but do whatever you feel what is right for your child.

  6. My husband was homeschooled his whole life and it was an amazing experience for him. Our son enjoys being homeschool, but not our daughter. Knowing what works best for your kids’ learning style is something important to consider when choosing a schooling option. Thanks for explaining homeschooling better

    1. Hello Carissa! I’m glad you were able to work it out as a family. That is so true you have to do what is best for your child and discover their learning style as well.

  7. Great food for thought in your post, Christy. And it’s a question I’ve often asked myself. As much as I love the idea of homeschooling, my life situation made me decide to send my kids to public school. It’s worked out well for them, so I have not regretted this decision, but it would have been interesting to try it out. Although, on second thought, I guess we did for a while during Covid! 😅

    1. Hello Maria! I totally understand and you have to do what is best for you and your kids!!!
