Sometimes in life when we try to figure out our purpose or journey in life, we often turn to education, certification, or a job trade. Stop Trying to Hold on, God has something greater for you. What if God is calling you to something else?
Yes, we need a job, we may need our college education to get the job, or we may need to develop certain skills or qualifications for the job. However, have you even thought about Is this is what “God wants me to do?”
Sometimes God Removes What You Won’t Release
Have you ever wondered why everything in your life seemed to fall apart all at once?
Maybe you lost your job. Maybe your relationship ended. Maybe your finances took a hit. Maybe you lost your home, your car, or something you worked so hard to keep.
In those moments, it’s easy to ask God, “Why is this happening to me?”
But what if what feels like a setback is actually God’s way of setting you up for something greater?
We Get Comfortable in Places God Never Called Us to Stay
Many of us become so consumed with our daily routines, responsibilities, and struggles that we stop asking God if we’re still walking where He wants us to be.
We wake up, go to a job we dread, come home exhausted, pay bills, repeat the cycle, and convince ourselves that this is just what life is supposed to look like.
Maybe you’ve stayed at a job because it felt safe.
Maybe you’ve stayed because of the paycheck.
Maybe you’ve stayed because you were afraid of starting over.
Yet every day, you feel empty, frustrated, unfulfilled, and financially stuck.
Sometimes we blame God for our unhappiness when the truth is that God never called us to remain there in the first place.
Just because something is familiar doesn’t mean it’s God’s will for your life.
God never intended for you to spend your life surviving when He created you to live with purpose.
When God Closes a Door
Sometimes the very thing we’re praying to keep is the very thing God is trying to remove.
You may get laid off.
Your hours may be cut.
You may be fired.
Your business may suddenly stop producing results.
At first, it feels devastating.
You wonder:
“How am I going to pay my bills?”
“What am I supposed to do now?”
“Why would God allow this to happen?”
But often, God is lovingly removing what you were never supposed to hold onto forever.
If He has closed a door, don’t spend your energy trying to force it back open.
Instead, begin asking,
“Lord, what are You leading me toward?”
God sees the entire picture.
He already knows the opportunities waiting ahead.
He already knows the people you’re about to meet.
He already knows the doors He’s preparing to open.
What feels like a loss today may become the greatest blessing of your life tomorrow.
Sometimes God Gives You the Courage Instead of the Rescue
This lesson became personal for me during a relationship I knew wasn’t healthy.
Night after night, I prayed the same prayer:
“God, please remove me from this relationship.”
Then one day something changed.
It was as if the Holy Spirit gently asked me a question:
“Why are you asking Me to remove you from a relationship I never called you into?”
That question changed everything.
God had already given me the wisdom.
He had already shown me the red flags.
He had already given me the freedom to choose.
What I was really asking for wasn’t deliverance.
I was asking God to make a decision He had already empowered me to make.
So I finally found the courage to leave.
Was it painful?
Absolutely.
Did it hurt?
Yes.
But staying would have hurt even more.
Sometimes God doesn’t remove us because He’s waiting for us to walk through the door He has already opened.
Don’t Hold Onto What God Is Asking You to Release
Many people stay in places that are slowly destroying them simply because they’re afraid of the unknown.
They stay in unhealthy relationships.
They stay in toxic environments.
They stay in careers that drain their joy.
They continue carrying responsibilities God never asked them to carry.
Fear whispers,
“What if nothing better comes?”
Faith replies,
“God is already preparing something better.”
Holding onto what God is asking you to release only delays what He wants to give you.
Sometimes we become attached to things simply because we’ve invested so much time into them.
But remember this:
Your history with something does not determine your future with it.
Sometimes the Loss Isn’t Punishment—It’s Preparation
Maybe it wasn’t a relationship.
Maybe you lost your house.
Maybe your car was repossessed.
Maybe your plans completely fell apart.
Those experiences can leave you feeling embarrassed, discouraged, or even ashamed.
But your loss does not define your future.
Sometimes God allows things to leave our lives because they can no longer go where He’s taking us.
Not every closed door is spiritual warfare.
Sometimes it’s simply God’s mercy.
Sometimes it’s His protection.
Sometimes it’s His redirection.
Sometimes it’s preparation.
God knows what will support your purpose and what will distract you from it.
God Is More Concerned With Your Purpose Than Your Comfort
We naturally want comfort.
God desires growth.
Comfort keeps us where we are.
Purpose requires movement.
Faith requires trust.
Obedience requires surrender.
The children of Israel had to leave Egypt before they could enter the Promised Land.
Abraham had to leave his homeland before he received God’s promise.
Peter had to step out of the boat before he experienced the miracle.
Throughout Scripture, God consistently calls His people to leave what is familiar before He reveals what is next.
The same may be true for you.
God may be asking you to release what you’ve outgrown so He can place you where you truly belong.
Trust God’s Process
When life changes unexpectedly, don’t immediately assume God has abandoned you.
Ask Him what He wants to teach you.
Ask Him where He’s leading you.
Ask Him to give you wisdom, discernment, and courage for the next step.
Sometimes the greatest blessings come disguised as painful endings.
God is not trying to destroy your life.
He’s trying to build the life He always intended for you.
If He removes something, trust that He can replace it with something far greater in His perfect timing.
A Prayer for Trusting God’s Direction
Heavenly Father,
Help me trust You even when I don’t understand what You’re doing. Give me the courage to release anything that no longer aligns with Your purpose for my life. Remove fear, doubt, and the desire to cling to what You’ve asked me to let go of. Open my eyes to the new opportunities You are placing before me, and help me walk in obedience instead of fear. I trust that Your plans for me are good and that every closed door is leading me toward something greater according to Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Encouragement
If you’ve recently experienced a loss, don’t lose hope.
This may not be the end of your story.
It may be the beginning of the next chapter God has been preparing all along.
Your setback may actually be God’s setup.
Your closed door may be leading to an open heaven.
Your ending may become the testimony that encourages someone else to trust God.
Keep praying.
Keep trusting.
Keep moving forward.
God isn’t finished with your story yet.

God has never left you to discover your purpose on your own.
He has already given you His Word as your guide.
I don’t think God wants us to do something in particular. Sure He gives us certain gifts or qualities but he gave us the power of choice. We CHOOSE what we do. He just wants us to be happy, to do what makes us feel alive because that’s what the world needs, more people that come alive. When that happens, the whole world gets better.
That’s beautifully said! Many of us don’t realize we have a choice. Yes I believe God gave us free will because He wants us to choose what works best for us. He will love us either way and is always there for us.

Hello Alexis, I do agree that God does give us choices and He also gives us free will. God wants us to be happy, to spread the world of Jesus Christ to the nation and to always keep Him first in our lives. Yes the whole world will get better when we do that.
